Third Week of Summer Camp!

Third Week of Summer Camp!

Already into the third week now, I can’t believe that things are going by so fast! I guess the old adage that “time flies by when you’re having fun” is true. The kids have really taken to the activities. They exercise their minds through board games, interactive lessons, building structures, worksheets, and arts and crafts time. They exercise their bodies through both indoor and outdoor play; favourites include obstacle courses and soccer! It is great to watch the kids learn and develop, and see their confidence improve as they challenge themselves and exceed their own expectations. It is a really tight community here at Play Loft, and one I am happy to be a part of!

Let the fun continue!

Second Week of Summer Camp!

The first week of summer camp blew by, and what a fun week it was! The kids explored science, history, math, literacy, and drama through activities such as walking the solar system in the park (a scaled down model, of course!), story time, free-writing, Bug Bingo, looking at fossils, understanding relativity with blankets and balls, making and solving patterns, looking at cells under microscopes, and much more! The kids also had a lot of fun playing both in Play Loft with the trampolines, jungle gyms, moon-sand, and climbing wall, as well as many outdoor games in the park.

With what a success last week was, we are eagerly looking forward to the rest of this week. We have the Lego robotics up and running, and the kids really seem to be enjoying it. We have even more activities planned, as well as a few favourites from last week. The kids (and the teachers!) will really love it!

Ready for week two!

First Week of Summer Camp!

After lots of hard work getting ready, it’s almost time for the summer camp to start! It is really quite exciting to see all the visiting parents (and especially the kids!) showing interest in the space and facilities. Often, it will take forever to convince the kids to leave, as they are engrossed in whatever activity they are doing. Whether it is playing the piano, playing with the sand table, jumping on the trampolines, or playing air hockey and foosball, they just don’t want to go! Both the kids and the staff are excited for the next week to begin. The staff all have various science, math, history, and art activities planned (designed for extra fun!), as well as good old play time. Because that is how we approach education here PlayLoft; whether it is pretending to be Vikings,  going to the park and making a scaled down version of the solar system, or playing games to learn about the food chain, we believe that kids should learn about the world around them through guided play and creativity.

We are all looking forward to meeting the kids we’re going to be teaching and taking care of for part of the summer, and watching them grow and learn through play. It is great to be a part of this process; what better way is there to spend a summer?

Excited for Monday!
